Ed Murray Named Managing Partner of Human Capital Solutions

As the Human Capital Solutions (HCS) leadership team celebrates the firm’s 20-Year anniversary, it also welcomes a new managing partner. Ed Murray will serve as the firm’s first managing partner and will oversee the company’s life sciences, healthcare, and private equity practices.

Murray brings over 30 years of Human Resources experience with increasing levels of responsibility at various pharmaceutical, biotech, and clinical research organizations such as PPD, Covance Laboratories, Syneos Health, Baxter Healthcare/Caremark, Abbott Laboratories, and TAP Pharmaceuticals.  

Human Capital Solutions’ relationship with Murray started 19 years ago when the retained executive search firm was engaged by PPD to launch a search for a Senior Vice President of Human Resources.

“I was quite hands-on with that search, and I was talking to HR executives around the country. One HR executive I reached out to was Mr. Ed Murray,” said Bo Burch, Founder and CEO of HCS.  

At the time, Murray was the Vice President of Human Resources at Covance.

“I communicated the details about this very attractive role and how Wilmington, NC may be an ideal place for him and his wife to consider.  Well, the rest is history,” Burch said.

Murray spent over 13 years with PPD leading the global human resources and corporate communications functions as the Chief Human Resource Officer.  He helped the executive leadership team grow the company from a $750 million annual revenue business to a $4 billion international enterprise and supported the organization through privatization and private-to-private recapitalization as a valued business partner.

With extensive experience in mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, Murray understands the dynamic needs of a growing organization, the challenges of integrating organizations, and the talent needs required to drive EBITDA expansion.

Most recently, as Vice President of Talent Optimization at Syneos Health, Murray led targeted efforts to identify opportunities, build strategies, and implement actions to attract and retain key talent through a period of high growth amidst shifts in the industry and an evolving employment dynamic.  

Murray’s extensive experience in executive leadership coaching and development, succession planning, and talent management has prepared him to excel in his new role as Managing Partner.

Murray earned an undergraduate degree in Finance from Western Illinois University and MBA from the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
